Regulatory Compliant Protocol Sponsor

Legal

The Digital Carbon Foundation is a nonprofit corporation organized under the laws of The State of Ohio and operates pursuant to its governing documents and applicable nonprofit regulations. Protocol documentation and public disclosures are intended to be interpreted under applicable governing law as specified in such documentation. Nothing in the DCF Protocol is intended to override or circumvent applicable laws, regulations, supervisory authority, public-ledger governance frameworks, market-venue rules, or sovereign legal systems in any jurisdiction.

As the Digital Carbon Coin (DCC) protocol sponsor, the DCF is responsible for authoring, governing, and maintaining the technical, operational, and lifecycle rules that determine how verified carbon credits may be digitally represented without compromising their environmental attributes. This role includes defining immobilization requirements, one-to-one backing rules, transfer constraints, reconciliation logic, irreversible retirement mechanics, supply discipline, and ledger-recording requirements. A protocol sponsor does not issue credits, does not set prices, does not guarantee liquidity, does not intermediate trades, does not provide market making, does not operate validators, and does not control blockchain or ledger consensus. Its responsibility is to ensure that any digital representation remains faithful, predictable, and non-manipulable throughout its lifecycle.
